Reaction to the WOC 09 Relay
Now that its all over its time for the critical analysis that's always associated with sport and particularly Orienteering which it is an inherent part of the game. A discussion over on Attackpoint has prompted the Secretary General of WOC2009 to speak out on the happenings behind the scenes of that fateful race.

mmm this is a hard one. At first I was like surely the result can't stand! It seemed wrong that those other teams should be in the history books.
But now I have come round to the argument that the duty to stop and aid a fellow competitor should be independent from results. It shouldn't be done with the expectation of consideration.
The losers (apart from Johannson) are the earlier runners in the teams that stopped as they miss the result and the accolades for fair play.
That is sport (and life) I guess.
Yeah, I think they probably made the right decision...Life ain't fair so why should sport be any different!
I like the idea of a fairplay medal similar to the Olympics for these guys. The sportsmanship is more important than the results imo.
